Having worked the last 20 years part time as an engineer, I can only say that 25 hours is optimal, 30 hours is fine but the elasticity to your days becomes tight, 35 hours is a challenge that has to be met by all partakers, and any where around 40 hours means the veneer is veryvery thin. You are also right about your assessment on who is going to be burdened with the few extra hours, and it’s not Sun. She’s going to shine. Do wish you all the very best and hope you manage to leave an hour or two a week open for nothingness.

Reading the Jan. 5 post in conjunction with this post, and then turning to the great oracle Jerry Seinfeld yields . . . this change in routine is killing independent George, er . . . Nola. That extra six hours trapped in the office is huge. I would assume that there may be some time creep heading your way, too. Thirty hours gradually turns into 32, then 34, and so on. Constant vigilance will be required to avoid independent Nola's untimely demise.

It WILL be a hard adjustment, but I think you'll embrace the challenge because that's what people like us do! You'll rock it and appreciate your time with your family even more.

Sam said that he will protect Sun when she goes to school. He says he will beat up anybody that messes with her. So you don't have to worry. :)

Maybe you can split the difference and still keep one extra day for yourself. Sun will be great at school five days a week and the transition to kindergarten should be seamless.

I know it's hard. but learning to let go is the most important lesson a parent can experience.
