The State of Things

by

Still sick am I.  Slowly getting cleared up.  And that’s good because this weekend is CS’s birthday and next weekend is all-on parades!

I am filled with such anticipation about Le Krewe d’Etat.  What will the men dance as this year?  In recent years, it was Vince Marinello (still my fave to date) and Michael Vick’s Dawgfighters.

With carnival season comes KING CAKE!  I have been enjoying my fair share :)

It’s funny here in New Orleans these days.  Things are going relatively well for the city.  We are finally getting some of the federal money and there is construction being done.  Locally, I know of only one person who MAY lose his job, and he works for the federal government.

But we turn on the radio and it’s all about the tanking economy and the stimulus package.  It’s hard to bear.  I HATE government intervention in the markets.  And the dollar amounts of this stimulus bill make my head spin.

And so I readjust my vision back to my own back yard.  Literally.  My back yard has been cleared of trees and stumps and is patiently waiting for me to plant in it.  Think of the money I can save growing my own fruits and veggies!  Maybe I am preparing just a bit in case that bad economy rolls into town.

But for the meantime, it isn’t a bad economy rolling through town but rather it’s Mardi Gras!

I’ll keep things festive here for the duration in case your neck of the woods needs a bit of carnival.  And with that, I leave you with the 2 pics I got of Krewe du Vieux before my camera died.
