Karma Must Exist

Today, CS and I took advantage of the beautiful weather our fair city is having and headed to one of its jewels–Audubon Zoo. Sun’s first visit! We stayed for about an hour–we saw the elephants and white tigers and orangutans and wild birds. We popped in the gift shop and heard “They All Asked for You”; it was a perfectly delightful visit.
When we got back to my car (we had a sweet parking spot!), CS asked me why my door was open. Open, as in WIDE OPEN, not slightly ajar. Ut oh. I walked to my door trying to remember if I had jumped out of my car and left it that way (surely not!). When I got closer, I saw inside sitting on my seat was – gasp – my wallet! Ah, shit. I grabbed it and opened it. And guess what? All my cash, credit cards, personal information–everything –WAS THERE!!!! Woot woot!
Now, one could take this to mean that my ten year old car with its driver’s door open and cash on the seat is not worth stealing (I mean, really, what more do I need to do–leave a sandwich and a note?). But I see this as a positive sign. So all those rumors you hear about how unsafe New Orleans is, I ask you, can you leave your wallet on your car seat with the driver’s door wide open in your city??

Cool. I once left my car keys in the ignition at the Audubon Zoo. No wallet, but all was exactly as I left it. People are good.
Also, I can’t make Owl understand that song. He wants to know why the animals have axes. Time for another visit to the Crescent City to work on his patois.
Wow. Impressive. I did this once when I went rollerblading in Pittsburgh. The trail was right on this really busy main road and my car was in the trail lot right by the road, by itself, door wide open, purse inside. It was on the passenger side where I got my daughter out of the car and then never went back on that side. I just put her in the jogging stroller and took off. All was good when I got back. Amazing!
Remember my story about leaving my wallet in the Wal-mart shopping cart right in the parking lot recently? People are good natured at heart. It is the world/environment that turns them evil!
That is certainly a positive and it is good that you recognize! Ride it girl!
I figure your guardian angel was axing all the other guardian angels of folks-given-easily-over-to-temptation to get their clients to look in the other direction when nearing your car.
I have always loved New Orleans. I went with both of my kids when they were in middle school on field trips to the Aquarium and Zoo, gone of river boat rides… I am so glad it’s coming back to its old glory.
I knew New Orleans was a nice city! How awesome everything was still there. It helps remind us there are people out there who aren’t thugs!
I’m so sad I didn’t get to come see your beautiful city. Maybe next time the Buckeyes make the trip, we’ll be able to make it.
Hell no, not here in Houston! I think that is awesome, I would have cried tears of joy!
Hey just stopping by fromthe Buzz.
WOW! You are so lucky. I would have my heart in my throat if I had seen that scene walking up to my car. eeekkkk….so glad it turned out well.
