Shaken, Not Stirred

Yesterday as I was nursing Sun, she closed her eyes and relaxed. Then she started to shake all over–almost like she was jumping in her sleep. I gently shook her to no avail. I gently shook her again with no effect. I looked around not knowing what to do. CS was running an errand and not home, so I couldn’t call for him to come. Seconds later, Sun was calm again. No tears, no biting down; nothing to signify what had just occurred.
I tried to put it aside and do the “wait and see” thing. But then today, it seemed to happen again with CS, except when CS gently shook her, she roused out of it.
So CS took her to the pediatrician. They took blood from her heels and are sending us to Children’s Hospital this Thursday for an EEG.
My mind tells me it is nothing more than a “sleep jerk” and not a seizure indicating a potentially serious problem. But my emotional side is shaken up and anxious to get the tests done and the results back.
Stumble it!

Oh, gosh, the pain. They WILL send you for an MRI (and blame those damn lawyers for making them practice defensive medicine). You will wait a really long time for a bored resident to tell you it’s nothing. But you will have to know.
Owl had a thing where he would shake his baby head back and forth and I was convinced it was a seizure or a sign of some autism spectrum disorder. It was nothing. He was fine. My 10 month old nephew just had an MRI last week (no findings = “normal”) because he has a little tick, too.
I agree with you. It’s a nap jerk.
A mother knows when it is serious. But, if you don’t follow up on it you will have guilt if it really is something that you ignored. Good luck and keep us posted.
P.S. Thanks for the online chicken soup
How scary that must have been. When my daughter was two, she suffered fever cramps, and I literally thought she was dying.
She tended to have cramps when travelling, which were due to magnesium deficiencies. Some kids lose important salts and minerals more quickly than others. Weren’t you just travelling with your little one? Please let us know how she is doing.
Please let us know what you find out. I will say a prayer for Sun that all is well with her tonight during my nightly prayers.
Omg, I’m glad you’re following up with it…hope it’ll turn out well. No matter what rationale there may be, we only want what’s best for those we love…we want them to be healthy. Keep us posted!
