Baby Steps

Last night, I got up for the 1:30am feeding of Sun. After which came the 2:10am diaper change. At said diaper change, her umbilical cord fell off. Just like that. That little milestone just sloughed off as I was snapping her onesie back in place and her father slept. Glad I was on the 1:30am feeding to be the witness.
Then, back to the sofa we came to get Sun back to sleep. I started to sing my special song for her, “You are my Sunshine” (which is apropos considering it is one of Louisiana’s state songs), when Sun’s face broke into a huge grin. She was happy with my singing!! CS would be so impressed–he thinks I can’t carry a tune! But then, a second later, her grin turned into a grimace, her face got all red and she burst out crying. Oh, no! She, too, thinks my singing is awful. Dammit. But then, yet another second later, she pooped and all was well with her world again.
Oh, how joyous it is being Sun’s mother!
Stumble it!

That’s a good Sun you have there. Mine always just cried when I sang, it never resulted in poop. Of course I am not the most desirable singer.
She’s not old enough to smile yet is she? I was thinking what everyone said to me. Oh it has to be gas.
Hope you didn’t keep the cord. If you did, you have to keep her first scab to.
Glad things are progressing so well. I puffy heart that song.
So glad you are enjoying your new baby so much! And I love “You are my Sunshine”. My name being Sunny it was sang to me once or twice in my lifetime. I am sure she will have great memories of it, as do I.
I sing that song too, or hum it when he’s sleepy, and he loves it too! I can’t remember when my son’s cord fell off, I think it was during one of his diaper changes, and I kept it:) Okay, I know this is going to sound weird but I have it in my wallet:) I know I need to put it in his baby book BUT every time I take it upstairs to do so I get sidetracked or forget what the hell I went upstairs for AND then there it sits yet again for another few days until I try to put it in his book again:) Any tips on remembering things? I swear, I had great memory pre-baby:)!! Oh, and I only put it in my wallet so I could show my hubby who was at work when it fell off and since I hate to walk up and down our stairs I put it in my wallet which went into his diaper bag which went downstairs w/us for the day:) Phew! That was a long explanation: sorry:)!
